Our Journey
We Are On A Mission
Since our CEO Monique Maissan, moved to China in 1998, she’s been on a mission. She always believed the polluting textile world could do better.
Her passion, fuelled by endless trials, resulted in the ability to create beautiful yarns, fabrics, garments and products made from recycled plastics that are kind to the environment and the people in it.
By 2007 Maissan and her small team, collaborating with the local Chinese Government, Universities and research institutions mastered the process of making high quality polyester fibers from plastic bottles (RPET). This was the game changer, enabling her dream of doing business for good.
To truly make an impact, pioneering is not enough. Continuous research, development and innovation is key to staying at the top. In 2018 Waste2Wear introduced a truly sustainable supply chain management system verified by blockchain technology. This award-winning system is incorporated into our products by use of a QR code. By scanning the code, evidence of the products provenance can be seen. This system, verified by a series of smart contracts provides indisputable evidence of the origin of the feedstock, right through to the finished product. This level of clarity answers the demand of today’s discerning clients.
The R&D team also conquered an important legitimizing tool: the ability to chemically identify the presence of recycled plastic bottle content in yarns and fabrics. This innovation is called RPET Recycling Assurance Three Step Test (RA-3) and is available to any company seeking assurance that what they buy indeed has a recycled component.
Another key project initiated by Waste2Wear is the Ocean Plastics Program along with the support of the Dutch Government, the Chinese Government, TU Delft, Donghua University, Tongli University, and various Chinese government approved NGOs. This program prevents additional plastic from ending up in the rivers and oceans.
Waste2Wear is the proud recipient of several international industry awards for these innovations.
